England manager, Thomas Tuchel has hinted he disagreed with Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca’s belief that Reece James can do well as a central midfielder.
Maresca recently said he sees James as a ‘midfielder.’
The Italian has also featured James in midfield position against Copenhagen and Aston Villa, respectively this season.
However, Tuchel, who coached James during their time together at Chelsea in the past, disagreed.
According to him, the 25-year-old strive well in the full-back and wing-back positions.
James was recently included in Tuchel’s squad for next week’s World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia at Wembley.
Speaking about James, Tuchel said (via Metro UK): “I know Reece. In calling him up now, we made sure before we called him up that he was constantly available in training, that he was constantly available to be picked for matches – so that when he’s not picked for matches.
“It’s not because of injury, it’s just a choice of the club to maybe protect him a little bit. This was the basis for the nomination.
“I still feel he is a player for the full-back and wing-back positions, I think we have enough players in central midfield who are more specialists there.”
