The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has called on candidates who sat for the 2025 school-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to revisit its official portal and recheck their results within the next 24 hours.
The directive, announced on Thursday in a statement signed by WAEC spokesperson Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, follows growing concerns over possible errors in the recently released results.
The exam body stated that “an internal post-result release procedure revealed some bugs in the data”.
“On this note, candidates who have previously checked their results are advised to re-check after 24 hours from now.
“WAEC remains committed to upholding excellence, fairness and transparency in all our assessment processes,” the statement read.
This development comes after WAEC disclosed earlier that only 38.32% of the 1,969,313 candidates obtained credit passes in five core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics — a sharp drop of 33.8% from the 72.12% recorded in 2024.
The steep decline triggered widespread reactions from stakeholders, who pointed to issues ranging from poor student preparation to possible lapses in WAEC’s assessment procedures.
Responding to the concerns, the Council revealed that technical issues were discovered during a post-release internal review, prompting a temporary suspension of access to the results.
“WAEC sincerely regrets to inform the general public of technical issues discovered during the internal review of the recently released results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates (SC) 2025,” the statement noted.

According to WAEC, the glitches were linked to the introduction of paper serialisation — a new anti-exam malpractice measure already in use by a national examination body — which was applied to subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.
“An internal post-result release procedure revealed some bugs in the data,” WAEC explained, adding that while the innovation was aimed at enhancing integrity, it inadvertently led to errors in the published scores.
“In light of this, the Council has temporarily disabled access to the WASSCE 2025 results on its portal to enable an urgent review and correction of the identified issues,” the statement continued.
WAEC apologised to candidates and stakeholders for the disruption, assuring the public that the matter would be resolved swiftly.
Candidates who have already checked their results are now advised to log in again after 24 hours to confirm their scores.
“WAEC remains committed to excellence, fairness, and transparency in all its processes. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we work to resolve this matter with the professionalism expected of us”.
