Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has stated that his administration will continue to prioritise the security of the state.
Diri gave the assurance in a post on his official X handle on Friday, while reacting to the release of a judge of the State High Court, Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that the judge regained his freedom on Thursday after spending 12 days in captivity.
Justice Omukoro was kidnapped on the evening of Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Kilimanjaro Eatery, opposite Ekeki Park, shortly after returning from a trip to Warri, Delta State.
“Following my directive, the combined effort of the security agencies, particularly men of the Department of State Services, DSS, mounted pressure on the kidnappers who fled their hideout. I thank them all for being professional in this rescue operation.
“I have directed that all those involved in the kidnapping of Justice Omukoro, be arrested and prosecuted in line with the laws.
“While I rejoice with the families of My Lord, Hon. Justice Omukoro, members of the Judiciary and the Bar, for the safe release of the victim, I particularly appreciate God for his safe return.
“The Government of Assured Prosperity will continue to make the state unsafe for criminal elements to operate as we have put measures in place to prioritise the security of our citizens,” the governor said.
