Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has assured that the pre-requisite quality and intergrity test will be done on the affected building at Mayigi Community Comprehensive School, Ilase in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.
DAILY POST reported that a rainstorm destroyed classrooms in the school, leaving a 14-year old pupil dead and five others including two teachers, the school food vendor alongside her seven-month-old child injured.
The governor made this known on Thursday during an on-the-site assessment of the school.
Abiodun noted that a decision was also taken that the building will not be in use until the structural integrity test has been completed, and if found satisfactory, the roof would be put back in place for the pupils immediate use.
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, also assured that the government will do all within its power to ensure that such occurrence does not repeat itself in the state.
He noted that the Zonal Education Officer has also been instructed to go around schools in the community to identify such abandoned buildings in order not to put learners at risk.
He also visited victims of the building collapse receiving treatment at the General Hospital Ipokia, as well as the parents of the deceased pupil to commiserate with them on the passing of their son, pledging to support the continued safety of pupils by ensuring that infrastructures in schools are in good shape.
Responding on behalf of the family, Mr Moses Amosun appreciated the governor, his deputy and others in the delegation, saying that though it was a painful loss, the presence of the state government has shown that they are not alone.
