A 20-year-old man in Adamawa State, Abdullahi Bawa, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly stabbing his friend to death during a dispute over illicit drug.

Bawa, said to be a hard drug dealer in Ngurore, a residential community in Yola South Local Government Area, was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court II in Yola which ordered his remand.

This was after his arraignment by the Adamawa State Police Command, which told the court that Bawa fatally stabbed his friend, Baba Ali, in the chest with a pair of scissors during a quarrel over Diazepam, a controlled substance labelled as hard drug because of the way it is misused.

The Police prosecutor in the case, Inspector Nanugi Tayeri, told the court that the incident occurred on April 25, 2025.

In his First Information Report, FIR, the prosecutor stated that the defendant is a habitual offender and had committed offences classified under ‘causing grievous hurt’ and ‘culpable homicide.’

The alleged crimes, he added, are violations of sections 218 and 191 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State.
