Bauchi community rejects sayawa chiefdom

The creation of the Sayawa Chiefdom in Bauchi State has hit another setback as the people of Boi in Bogoro Local Government Area have chosen to remain under the Bauchi Emirate.

The Ayaa community, a part of Boi, has firmly declared that it will continue under the Bauchi Emirate until it secures self-rule.

In a statement signed by the National Youth Chairman of the Boi Progressives Association (BPA), Comrade Jonas Munaka, and Comrade Kalanyanta Kevin, National Youth Secretary, the Ayaa youths reaffirmed their support for the Boi Council of Elders’ decision to reject the Sayawa Chiefdom.

DAILY POST reports that the Boi Council of Elders had on February 10 publicly declared that the Boi community would not be part of the Sayawa Chiefdom but would maintain its loyalty to the Bauchi Emirate.

“As Ayaa youths, we fully support this decision to uphold our identity, heritage, and historical ties,” the statement read.

While acknowledging their past support for the Sayawa Chiefdom, they noted that Governor Bala Mohammed had given non-Sayawa-speaking communities the right to decide whether to join or not.

“In line with this, we have chosen to remain under the Bauchi Emirate,” they said.

They further appealed to the governor to grant the Ayaa people their own chiefdom, stating that this would promote peace, stability, and development in their community.

They called on all Boi Ayaa youths to remain united and committed to protecting their cultural and historical identity.
