The Vice Chancellor of Havilla University, Ikom, Cross River State, Prof. Silvanus Obi-Abang, has charged newly admitted students to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to their academic journey

He also cautioned them to steer clear of cultism and other criminal activities on campus.

The University Don gave the charge during the university’s 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony, which took place over the weekend at the institution’s main campus in Ikom LGA in central Cross River State.

Addressing the 70 newly matriculated students, Prof. Obi-Abang warned against laziness, cultism, examination malpractice, and other forms of deviant behavior.

He emphasized the importance of upholding values such as integrity, hard work, and moral discipline, warning that any form of truancy or unruly conduct would attract severe sanctions, including probation or outright dismissal.

“The university will not tolerate laxity or misconduct. Students must demonstrate a strong commitment to academic excellence and ethical conduct,” he stated.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to academic excellence, Prof. Obi-Abang highlighted that the National Universities Commission, NUC, has accredited 88% of the university’s degree programmes.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the new students are distributed across three faculties: Health Sciences (59), Management and Social Sciences (3), and Computer Science (8).
