Ahmed Isah, widely known as the ,’Ordinary President’ and host of the Brekete Family programme on Human Rights Radio, has offered guidance to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, regarding the ongoing strike by FCTA workers under the Joint Union Action Committee, JUAC.
The workers have insisted on going ahead with an indefinite strike due to unresolved welfare issues, despite a court order mandating their return to work.
On January 19, JUAC launched the industrial action, calling for immediate intervention to tackle various welfare concerns impacting workers’ morale and productivity.
In solidarity, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, and the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, joined the strike, demanding urgent attention to their grievances, including the payment of five months’ wage awards, outstanding promotion arrears for 2023 and 2024, and adjustments to hazard and rural allowances.
Reacting to the development, Isah encouraged Wike to evaluate his tenure in the FCT, reflecting on both successes and shortcomings.
He also expressed his admiration for Wike’s vigorous approach to governance, insisting that the former Rivers State governor has been able to achieve a lot in the FCT, so far.
“I see no reason why the minister will sue workers to court, and most of the things that the workers mentioned are still pending, go and check,” Ordinary President said on the Brekete Family programme on Thursday morning.
“People who are close to Minister Wike should advise him, before you, other people have been ministers before.
“Very soon, you will be addressed as a former minister just as they are calling you a former governor. How do you want people to remember you as Wike? That minister who carries workers along, or that minister who bullies workers.
“This is my one kobo advice to you. I like Wike’s energy; that is why he has achieved what he has achieved in FCT.”
