Arsenal on Saturday has announced the death of a former captain of the club, George Eastham.
The Premier League club confirmed the sad news in a terse statement posted on their official X account.
It read: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of trailblazer, George Eastham.
“Our captain from 1963-1966 during his six-year spell at Arsenal, George was also part of the 1966 World Cup-winning England squad.
“May he rest in peace.”
Eastham, a member of England’s World Cup-winning squad, died at the age of 88.
He spent most of his career at Newcastle, Arsenal and Stoke.
