Governor Bago warns against land grabbers, speculators in Bida area

The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has warned community members in Bida town, Bida local government area to be wary of land grabbers and speculators in the area.

Bago gave this warning during unveiling of the New Bida Development Plan at a town hall meeting and stakeholders engagement organized by the Ministry for Lands and Survey in collaboration with the New Niger Development Project in Bida

He urged them to plant economic trees to improve land values, especially during compensation.

Bago assured the people that the State Government would compensate property owners affected by the project and encouraged patience and support.

He emphasized that the government would not collect anyone’s land without due compensation.

The Governor also revealed that the development plan would be implemented in phases, with a 20-year short-term and 50-year long-term plan.

He expressed optimism about the future of Niger State and assured that the government would ensure development despite limited financial resources.

Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, had earlier dispelled community fears about land acquisition and called for cooperation with the government to develop Bida town for a better future.

The Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Maurice Magaji, noted that the development plan is a defining moment for Bida’s transformation into an economically vibrant city, providing a foundation for sustainable growth and environmental resilience.
