Lagos: Fake LASAMBUS officials nabbed for defrauding accident victims

Two individuals, identified as Nuche Joseph and 29-year-old Lawal Rofiat, have been arrested for allegedly masquerading as officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) in a scheme to extort unsuspecting members of the public.

Their arrest was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos Police Command on April 29, 2025, as the duo posed as LASAMBUS personnel.

The suspects, reportedly operating under the guise of a private outfit known as BrainGrace Ambulance Service, had been exploiting accident victims by charging exorbitant fees for emergency pre-hospital care, services which the Lagos State Government provides free of charge through LASAMBUS.

According to the RRS, their arrest came after a relative of an accident victim took to social media to expose the deception. The family had paid N150,000 to BrainGrace Ambulance for emergency care, only for the victim to tragically die before arriving at the hospital.

Outraged and feeling defrauded, the grieving family initially believed they had been swindled by state officials. Their viral social media post, however, led to an investigation that uncovered the impersonation and resulted in the suspects’ apprehension.

“The two suspects have made confessional statement to the police and have been charged to court” RRS said in the statement.
